Hier en début d'après-midi, tous les oiseaux présents dans le jardin se sont brutalement envolés et puis plus rien, pendant plusieurs minutes c'était le silence quasi absolu. C'est en levant légèrement les yeux que j'ai compris ce qui se passait, un épervier d'Europe, (un mâle), posé sur une branche de noisetier observait attentivement l'ensemble du jardin. La situation est redevenue normale au bout d'un quart d'heure après l'envol du rapace.

A completely frozen Lochan na h-Achlaise, with the Black Mount in the background, from this afternoon.
Fun fact. I’ve been learning Scottish Gaelic for two years now and had to double check when I heard this name, but yes, Lochan na h-Achlaise does indeed translate to Loch of the Armpit.

Here, we call them Munros: any mountain over 3,000 feet (914.4 metres). If you climb one, we say you’ve ‘bagged’ a Munro, and Munro-bagging is a favoured weekend activity among our most motivated citizens.
