I have proof: Even the magnificent river Rhine starts baby-like up in the Swiss mountains. A couple of days ago in the Netherlands, I was fantasising about going to the beginning of the river Rhine. Now I am here. Actually, the birth place of the Rhine is rather close to the start of the river Rhone. Two brothers, going their own way. The color of the water is fantastic.

Day 3 of my #retirement #bikepacking tour on #Brompton folding #bike : Malpensa -> Milano (63 km, almost entirely along the Naviglio Grande #Canal ,probably the longest single paved cycle path I've ever ridden. We crossed hundreds of local cyclists on racing bikes.)

@david6677 @urbanbike J'ai un 6v, avec le plateau standard 50 dents (on peut descendre en 44 à la commande, plus bas en prenant des pièces ailleurs que chez #Brompton). Je n'ai utilisé la 1ère que lorsque j'avais été rouler au Pays Basque.
Après, je trouve le dérailleur 2v vraiment pas terrible, pas très fiable, et je crois avoir lu que le 4v est un dérailleur plus "normal". Donc supérieur au 2v.

Cher.e.s amoureux.ses du #brompton, pas loin de craquer pour le précieux, je me pose encore une question : 6 ou 12 vitesses ?
Pour du #velotaf sur petite distance, malgré 300 m d’une belle côte et parfois une belle tramontane, je me dis qu’un 6 est bien suffisant.
Et en même temps, si je me prends au jeu du Brompton, et que je commence à envisager une utilisation multimodale… je me dis que de plus longues distances à vélo seraient envisageables… et que le 12 vitesses ferait sens… surtout avec la durée de vie annoncée de l’engin.
Bref, je suis en quête de conseils… vous en pensez quoi ?

Going up to the Grimselpass and later to the Furkapass, Switzerland, was easy. I took busses. Furkapass lies 2436 meters above sea level. There were plenty of magnificent views all day long. Going down was a challenge, though. I had to stop every kilometer for a couple of minutes to let my rims cool down. The Brompton brakes were at their limits in terms of heat dissipation. I am now in Andermatt.

Today is my first official day of professional #retirement ,at the age of 67: arrival by #train in #Domodossola, in the #Italian#Alps , to start tomorrow morning a new #bikepacking adventure of over 1000 km on my #Brompton folding #bike (C-Line 6 gears). I'll keep you posted.

Gégé est reparti pour un tour !
Après une nuit au camping au nord de Dunkerque et un spectacle son et lumière nocturne, nous voilà parti avec mon pote Juju pour sillonner la #Belgique et le #PaysBas pendant une grosse semaine 🚲🚀
Pour le moment, on a finalement choisi de suivre l'Eurovelo 12 : vélo-route de la mer du Nord.
Avec les chaudes températures ça sera sûrement plus agréable 😅
