I went out for a few hours with my laptop to see how #Kopia would deal with being unable to connect to my S3 storage backed by #garage in my homelab and confirmed that it happily returned to updating the backups when I arrived back home. Nice :)

I’m just realizing right now that I’m still relying on a piece of #minio tech, namely minio-client (also known as mc or mcli).

As of now, I didn’t find a credible alternative, particularly something suited specifically at #garage.

Might be the right time to write something in #rust to help myself and maybe others.

If you're still relying on #MinIO, you're certainly aware that after their #OpenSource bait-and-switch, it is now a growing liability and technical debt in your infra.

I'm finally off of #minio! Finally using #Garage for #S3 storage.

(minio removed features, stops distributing #docker containers besides them having an active CVE and more. You'd need to buy a license to keep these features)

Learned that #minio is basically doing seppuku to itself. So started looking at alternatives. Found so far #garage. Absolutely terrible searchable name, 😅 but excellent alternative. A great deal of work has gone to make it consistent. Full #CRDT design and everything! 😍

And further sprinkles here is the #AGPL license on #Deuxfleurs #garage. So whole rugpull scenario gets MUCH harder.

Which btw, is also hosted on their own #foregejo server. 😁 The further I go on Garage, the more I'm really falling in love with this option.

Consistency controls was first requirement. Development continuity is the big second. 😎

@stefano, I just watched the recording of Patrick Hausen's @EuroBSDCon distributed storage session and at the end of the session somebody said you might have compared #SeaweedFS with #Garage and that you found SeaweedFS more suitable.

I know that you blogged about running SeaweedFS but I wasn't aware you compared different #S3 platforms, if you indeed did, would you mind sharing your experiences?
