Is there any sort of commonly used alternative to Google Maps reviews out there? I've written a lot of reviews over there (mainly cafes, campsites and bike shops) - I do want to leave them up because they're all places I want to support and bring business to, but is there anywhere better I could be copying them to?

Hi, I am Søren (the "ø" is pronounced like the "ea" in "Earth"), a guy from Denmark. I am trying out the #fediverse to see what it is all about and support it with a bit of content.
I post about #Lego and #EuropeanAlternatives (and #DanmarkSkifter in Danish), but as a person who goes through hobbies like people go through.. stuff they change often.. that is bound to change down the road. In tha last year I have been around sewing, macramé, 3d printing, and a few others.

The story starts many years ago on the eve of the new millennium. With an internet friend I started an internet forum using his dads university network access.
As most sites then it was themed to discuss a mutual special interest. Let’s say it was about ducks. The software we used came in English but the language we used was Dutch.
For weeks not much happened but then I logged in and saw we were at 75 users. Turns out people on some other forum felt left out and found our place. Fun.

EN: I'd love to be part of a Danish / European group doing cooperative self-hosting for key online stuff:
- email
- notes
- calendar
Optionally:
- document cloud with text editor / spreadsheet collaboration tools
- small public facing website space (to run a blog, share some html pages. I wouldn't even need PHP or something)
I clearly (https://mastodon.online/@Pepijn/115963117610569220) shouldn't be in charge of the technical stuff but am happy to participate otherwise.
Any suggestions?
Hallo Gemeinde,
As suggested by @daanrademaker, @petrescatraian, and @thomas I tryed out both @Zeitkapsel and @pixelunion as options for my photo backup.
Zeitkapsl looks and works good, but it lacks the ability to cast to my TV and is a bit too expensive for me.
Pixelunion is really good, have decent editing capabilities and I would happily recommend it to others, but the lack of a family plan makes it unsuitable for my needs.
So @jottacloud is still my top contender.

It’s far overdue, but my #diday resolution this year is to completely divest from US tech.
Feels rather like my responsibility as an 🇺🇸 expat firmly planted in 🇪🇺.
It feels like an enormous task, as I feel helplessly bound to past tech decisions, but I hope breaking into small steps:
Software:
✅ Gmail -> Posteo
✅ Safari -> Firefox
MacOS/Windows -> Linux
Hardware:
iPhone -> Fairphone
MacBook -> ??

Woah, that was waaaay easier than I thought it would be. Despite being (happily) rather tech-ignorant, it only took about a week of occasional tinkering to transfer all of my US tech dependencies to #opensource and #europeanalternatives.
Unfortunately, though, my largest tech footprint remains work (a 🇩🇪 federal research institute). Outside of some pretty terrible SAP systems, we are entirely reliant on #USTech. That's the case even for low hanging fruit like team organization, office products, and social media outreach.
