it's been around for a while, but it came up in a group chat again today.. are people aware of this audio streaming site from the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine where you can listen to curated wax cylinders of Jewish music from An-sky, Kiselhof, Magid, Beregovsky etc. expeditions?😁

a related thing I didn't know about till today is that Zisl Slepovitch (from Minsk, long resident in NYC) has 40 klezmer tracks from Sofia Magid's field recordings up on bandcamp.

#Vancouver people, pls check out this great event my org is putting on on Aug 3rd. "A multi-lingual performance from Zoë Aqua, Yonatan Kunda, and Dan Kunda Thagard exploring the traditional themes of destruction and rebuilding, cruelty and compassion, despair and hope."

I don't know Yonatan, but Zoë and Dan are longtime friends from the #klezmer scene who have never performed in Vancouver before AFAIK. Same day as Powell St fest but it's timed so both are doable.

Wish I could see this lol😁 written by Mikhl Yashinsky, who I'm obsessed about, directed by Michael “Mikhele” Leibenluft, music by the same musician trio who created Shterna and the Lost Voice. A very gay #Yiddish musical

I notice that Walter Zev Feldman's new book is out, "From the Bronx to the Bosphorus: Klezmer and Other Displaced Musics of New York." Feldman, a musicologist, is one of the key figures in the #klezmer revival & recorded with Andy Statman in the 70s. His 2016 book Klezmer: Music, History and Memory, for whatever minor parts I may disagree with, is one of the only reliable academic works in English on the genre.
