Ich habe den Laptop einer Freundin von Win10 auf #Linux Mint umgestellt und bekomme jetzt lauter nette Signal Nachrichten.😇

Das Arbeiten mit dem Computer mache ihr jetzt wieder mehr Spaß! Bislang dachte sie, Linux sei nur ein "billiger Abklatsch" von Windows, aber Pustekuchen: Der Laptop ist jetzt viel leiser, schneller und wird nicht mehr so heiß: "Der bleibt ja saukalt!"

Und das System ist "megaklug, es lässt sich so einfach bedienen, wie mein Handy."

Y'a un petit truc vachement sympa : Si vous utilisez wormhole (paquet "magic-wormhole") pour transférer des fichiers ou des répertoires entre machines qui ne sont pas sur le même réseau, ça passe par un relai chez Debian. 👍️
(Et j'ai eu du 20 Mo/seconde pour le transfer, ce qui n'est pas mal du tout.)

I recently install #linuxmint ( #linux) on the relatively new laptop of my SO, and after that (really totally frictionless) experience and the enthusiastic reaction to the new system, I am going to try and slip this to relatives as "Windows XE (Extra Edition)" and see whether I ever get caught out.

(My father has been using Linux for years now, installed by my brother-in-law and still hasn't gotten aware of it ...)

People, out there, don't let anybody tell you that "Linux is not mature for the desktop". It's just not preinstalled.

J'ai libéré mon premier ordinateur grâce à @Bristow_69 et son initiative https://aidelinux.gogocarto.fr/

Ça n'a pas été une mince affaire. La personne avait créé une clé bootable d'Ubuntu et avait confié la mission à un informaticien qui est tombé sur un os (tu l'as le jeu de mot?). A priori, c'est peut-être dû au secure boot qui n'était pas désactivé. En tout cas, le GRUB était cassé et à configurer.

On a réussi à booter sur ma clé de #LinuxMint Debian Edition 7 après avoir apprivoisé l'uefi.

oh shit i totally missed that LMDE 7 got released!! and you can upgrade directly from LMDE 6! which i would do in a heartbeat, except new, bigger hard drive just came in, so i'm thinking i should swap in the new HD and partition everything right and do a fresh LMDE 7 install, then transfer over my files as necessary.

I did a successful install of Linux Mint Cinnamon on a laptop at one of the repair cafes near me today.

I enjoyed talking to the customer about Linux, and it was interesting to hear that they had already heard and read about some of its many upsides. They saw this as an opportunity to learn more about their machine, and I hope they do just that.

Windows 10 support has ended now, but it's not too late to find a repair cafe or installation event near you.
