If you love #openstreetmap and use their maps on your smartphone, you might know #OrganicMaps, what you might not have heard is that there have been some transparency issues and there is now a fork you might prefer, #CoMaps https://itsfoss.com/news/organic-maps-fork-comaps/

GMaps VW:
"This is a restricted WebView wrapper for accessing the web version of Google Maps. Intended for use when OpenStreetMap isn't enough."
Devo scaricarlo.
#OpenStreetMaps #OrganicMaps #OsmAndMaps #Google #GoogleMaps
do I recall correctly that there was some drama with #OrganicMaps?
Just completed a 1500km trip across France & Spain using AndroidAuto + #CoMaps instead of GMaps. Except for the search engine that is less complete than Google Maps, the guiding was top notch!! One step closer to fully #degoogle my life! Great work #OrganicMaps#CoMaps devs https://www.comaps.app
So I've just started using @organicmaps as an alternative to Google Maps and been really liking it so far! A little rough around the edges but very much comparable in both feature set and experience, definitely a keeper! ❤️

I’m trying out @fastmail but because they don’t offer a widget or a standalone app for the calendar, it takes 4 taps (edit: 2 if you enable the bottom menu) to simply check my calendar for the day 💀
1) Open #Fastmail app
2) Open side menu
3) Open drop-down menu
4) Finally switch to calendar view
I submitted a ticket to make sure I wasn’t missing anything (edit: workaround is to use #iOS Calendar app) but is anyone successfully using Fastmail as a #Google Calendar replacement? My current setup:
Another huge issue with #Fastmail calendar: there is zero integration with map apps.
Need to navigate to an appointment? Tapping the “Where” field does nothing, because it’s plain text! Need to add a location? Manually search and copy/paste the address (or as Fastmail Support suggested, the Google Maps URL), then open Google Maps again when you’re heading out.
Apple Maps sucks and #OrganicMaps is horribly outdated and won’t even let me log in with my #OSM account… de-Googling is impossible 🫠
Observation. #GoogleMaps has updated the #GulfOfMexico to be #GulfOfAmerica. #OpenStreetMap apps such as #OSMand and #OrganicMaps have not. And it isn't for lack of contribution; there's tons of contributions in this area of the map just in the last couple hours. It's just that, as an open source non profit not based in the US; it's a little less susceptible to political nonsense like renaming a body of water to be more 'Murican. Who would've thought maps could get political.
Get a NAS with #Docker support (like #TrueNAS. You can install web-services like @nextcloud which is a completely self hostable Google Drive/Google Docs replacement with addons to extend functionality.
#DuckDuckGo is currently the best search engine that isn't self hosted however #SearXNG is self hostable and very customisable.
#OSMAnd (customisable) or #OrganicMaps (straight forward) for Maps. Both use #OpenStreetMaps
#Android replacement, well Android. I personally recommend @calyxos which comes with an open source replacement to emulate Play Services called #MicroG
Although #Proton is technically a great service, CEO has come out as a Trump supporter so I'll leave that to your personal opinon. Another good service is @Tutanota
