Went on a (sleepless) night ride for the last leg of my #bikepacking trip. It was a powerful experience, a sort of exploration of uncommon mental states.

Mystical, hilarious, delirious, exhausted – in cycles. I’m not sure the wildlife has seen such a weird human :D

222km and counting !

Went 57 km to Hallormsstaður Forest from Egilsstadir today. Aside from not carrying all my gear it was like the rest of my #bikepacking trip - cold, against the wind, and rainy. Plus 400 m elevation gain. So - easier than my other #iceland rides.

Ironically, I have to cycle a certain distance (not sure how far) or my left knee ligiment will tighten up and I can't walk (which is what happened to me in Reykjavik). And I have to keep camping because there's no way I can afford Iceland hotels. So the only thing changing is the long rides between towns. Andrea says it still counts as bikepacking. Purists may disagree but whatever. #bikepacking #icelandair

According to RideWithGPS I climbed 614 meters yesterday. According to Strava it was more that a kilometer. I can't sustain this, so I'm going to bus to Egilsstadir (which will take two days) and rest and maybe get dental care. I wish I were 40 years younger, a hale 26 year old. The spaces between the towns are magical, the views stunning. I'm so glad I came, despite how hard it has been. #bikepacking#Iceland

I'm taking a rest day today in Djúpivogur. It's Commerce Day, so things are closed. Though there's a cruise ship in port, so who knows. I don't mind admitting that #bikepacking#Iceland is harder than I even thought it would be. The hills, wind, weather, distances, lack of shelter for a break - these all combined. And I need to plan better - I can't just go on a noodle breakfast and dry bread (on which I broke a tooth,). I need proper energy - and a dentist. 71 km, 622 m climbed.

When we started bikepacking in 2010, handmade bags, no Garmin no Rules and before Gravel meant anything, I never thought bikepacking and the fucked up nature of techbro internet business models would ever coincide in a major way. With Komoot, it did.

This is a super thoughtful piece, I would recommend anyone to read not only for bikepackers, but anyone interested in commons in digital spaces. Also proves again why bikepacking.com is just such a gem of a space on the web.
