Democratic and Republican lawmakers across the country tried to push through bills to tighten gift limits, toughen conflict-of-interest provisions or expand financial disclosure reporting requirements. But many of the measures were derailed.

The working group was created as part of a towing reform law passed in response to a ProPublica and Connecticut Mirror investigation into towing practices in the state.

Kudos to the #Connecticut legislature for passing a new law on digital books and following the 2020 model legislation from #LibraryFutures.( @libraryfutures).

"After the governor signs, #publishers will no longer be able to
* Prohibit #libraries from #lending #ebooks on their own terms,, including via interlibrary loan (#ILL)
* Restrict #license terms or checkout limits during the term of a license without offering agreements on “commercially reasonable terms” that align with the library mission
* Limit when libraries can buy an ebook license or how many licenses they can buy
* Prohibit libraries from making  #preservation #copies
* Require libraries to violate patron confidentiality."
Update. Laws like the one in #Connecticut are under consideration in #Hawaii, #Massachusetts, and #NewJersey. Big #publishers and the #AuthorsGuild are lobbying against them.

From Alan Inouye (@alansinouye), former director of public policy for the American Library Association (@alalibrary): “It’s really sad [that opposition limits libraries] to what we had [in the age of print]. In effect, we’re excluding the possibility of being better in the digital world.”
It's good for #tech, but this " #RightToRepair" bill specifically does not apply to:
- power tools
- farm and tractor equipment
- garden and yard equipment
- construction equipment
- industrial and utility equipment
- EV chargers
- combustion engines
- recreational vehicles
- marine vehicles

Following reporting by ProPublica and The Connecticut Mirror, Connecticut lawmakers passed reforms on a century-old towing law. But they don’t solve all the problems that vehicle owners have raised.
Here’s what they told us.

Applies to products first sold in Connecticut after July 1, 2026.
Manufacturers must make docs, parts, and tools available for at least 3-5 years after EoL.
However, this "right-to-repair" bill does NOT apply to equipment built for "non-road use". So, basically farm equipment. Which makes this a somewhat pointless right-to-repair bill.
