What are people using for 3D CAD modeling on linux these days? Once upon a time I did this (for a 3D print) and I remember using something that was pretty easy to learn and a nice balance between point and click & parametric geometric construction. I don't remember what I used though. I think for this bicycle restoration project I'm going to have to have a freewheel removal tool CNCed. Should I be using OpenSCAD? FreeCAD? Something else?

@redjives

i just can't figure out UI of all these fancy 3D modeling tools. probably my brain just isn't wired as they expect. i'm using #OpenSCAD now and it's such a joy! maybe it takes longer than if i knew how to use something like FreeCAD but it still gets the job done.

After working on it for almost 9 months. I recently finished my hardest build yet. I've written a blog post about it. (Warning, long). Grab a cuppa and have a read.

Having another go at building my #Cheerlights colour chooser that will sit outside on my garden wall for passersby to press to change my garden lights and the zillion others in the world at the same time

I did come up with a #tag for it last time I tried as got a few other people to make some but since I completely deleted my bad place account, I've no idea what I used - suggestions welcome :)

#3DPrinting Box created using my @SnapCloud to #OpenSCAD transcoder and #TinkerCAD

Another free #Gridfinity bin for your office desk published.

Gridfinity 2x2 bin for basic stapleless-stapler, with SourceCode for #OpenSCAD

https://www.printables.com/model/1378104-gridfinity-2x2-bin-for-basic-stapleless-stapler-wi

You can find these, and many other staplers that can be used without consumables online.

NON-affiliate link:
https://amazon.de/s?k=4%20Klammerloses%20Heftger%C3%A4t&i=office-products

A 2x2 Gridfinity raster units sized bin, only 2 height units flat. Inside is a paper stapler with an odd shape that is nicely cut out from the bin so it stays put securely on your desk. The bright yellow stapler will staple multiple pages without any consumable metal staples.

Also have you seen this neat little #OpenSCAD program that you give it a list of screw hole locations and it automatically generates a 3D printable PCB mounting frame baseplate with standoffs? It's really slick!

(What do you mean "No, because you forgot to share it before")
