Expressing support for Palestine Action can now land you 14 years in jail in the UK
Anything to not have to confront the real issues, including the UK's support for zionist-driven genocide in Palestine I guess?

Met police arrests 29 people holding signs in support of Palestine Action in London on Saturday
Sue Parfitt, 83, said banning Palestine Action was “a very dangerous move that has to be challenged”. And: “We are losing our civil liberties, we must stop that for everybody’s sake.”
More than 20 arrested for holding “i support palestjne action” placards; meanwhile lovely Rod Liddle writing in the lovely Spectator:
“ A small yield nuclear weapon, such as the American W89, dropped on Glastonbury in late June would immediately remove from our country almost everybody who is hugely annoying.”
But this is fine, this is normal; no consequences. #Gaza#PalestineAction#UKPolitics#RightWingShits

The proscription of Palestine Action as a terrorist group starts tomorrow.
This is a dangerous escalation in the criminalisation of political dissent in the UK.
It’ll increase surveillance, particularly under the Prevent Duty, and censorship under the Online Safety Act.

At the heart of this decision is the logic of ‘pre-crime’.
Where the state intervenes not just against unlawful acts, but also against political expression that it considers might become threatening.
This turns activism into extremism. Legitimate political demands into a national security threat.

As there’s no public evidence of any link to terrorism or support of terrorist groups from Palestine Action, Open Rights Group supports their decision to appeal proscription.
While we may have differing opinions on their tactics, we stand against this attack on their right to exist and speak out.

As the Lords start debating the Palestine Action proscription, Peter Gian notes that under this sort of suppression of protest, groups from the anti-apartheid campaigners to the Suffragettes would all have been suppressed.
Its a sad day for democracy when we are now hoping that an unelected second chamber will save us from the machinations of our representatives, all of whom bar 26 voted against democracy!

> Minister argues move will not impinge on people’s right to protest but critics call it ‘grave abuse of state power’
Predictably, it was passed. 385 to 16. You can check here how your MP voted. Mine abstained, along with many others (including Keir Starmer).
