There is also a wonderful torch song cover of "Ame nochi Ame nochi Ame" by trans artist Ataru Nakamura, (中村中) I couldn't find that either, but here is the original song itself.
And best of all in a way, there is a cover of こいのうた (koi no uta, "love song") by Mongol 800, which is funny as one of their own famous songs is ちいさなこいのうた (chiisana koi not uta, "small love song")
I encourage you to listen to the very end.
This is パンク ("PUNK") by GO!GO!7188, covered by Shonen Knife (少年ナイフ).
They changed the key to minor, it became a very different song.
(couldn't find it on line so it's an upload)
That same tribute album also has a cover of "bungu" by Polysics. Couldn't find that on line either, so here is one of their own songs, "Married to a Frenchman"
Today is Monday, I think (I've been in a time vortex) and so it's time for #MoodMusicMonday! Today's mood is "fuck authority!"
You can take that in the conventional meaning of defying/hating authority or the sex way if you really want to. It's whatever you want.
Post a song that reflects the mood, preferably with a link to the song. And remember the hashtag #MoodMusicMonday and to include the mood (you can censor it if you feel that's necessary for your audience or whatever)

While going all in on excess, the 76th edition of NHK’s “Kohaku Uta Gassen” reminded viewers why the New Year’s Eve musical bonanza still matters. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/culture/2026/01/05/music/kohaku-uta-gassen/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #culture #music #jpop #japanesetv #newyear #nhk #oshogatsu #kohakuutagassen
Something really unexpected happened in the end of the year. I stumbled a J-Pop singer that I kinda like (and I just saw her sing live on TV, she can actually sing, she's not just about dancing and looking pretty and the producers do the rest).

Isao Yukisada’s drama “Kaede” is the latest reminder that in Japan, today’s karaoke staple is tomorrow’s feature film. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/culture/2025/12/25/film/films-based-on-a-song-kaede/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #culture #film #japanesefilm #jpop #isaoyukisada
You know the song. You probably sang along. AiScReam, the group behind the year’s most viral Japanese hit, explains how a question about ice cream turned into a global singalong. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/culture/2025/12/18/music/aiscream-j-pop-youtube/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #culture #music #jpop #aiscream #youtube
From Mrs. Green Apple and Snow Man to Hana and Kenshi Yonezu, J-pop utilized mixed media in 2025 to create something larger than any one release. But can that diversity fuel global reach? https://www.japantimes.co.jp/culture/2025/12/12/music/mrs-green-apple-hana-kenshi-yonezu-j-pop/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #culture #music #jpop #mrsgreenapple #hana #kenshiyonezu
I wonder why kind of J-Pop I hate the most. Is it obnoxiously (not) "cute" girls bands, or obnoxiously (not) "cool" boys bands. The music of both kinds is inane, and I wonder if I was as obnoxious as my daughter when I was her age and I used to listen to the hits of the day in my living room in front of my annoyed parents.
She'll grow out of it any day now, right? Right?
