@stefano need some #mastodonhelp am running my #mastodon on my own little #FreeBSD server. Since the port is no longer maintained, any advice on how to upgrade and maintain? Even with ports every upgrade I've done so far has been a real problem requiring me to start my server over or manually migrate the SQL database. I'm currently on 4.3.6.
Mastodon has suddenly started showing me a "who to follow" post. Some of the posts are labelled "personalized suggestion". Is this a recently added feature? I see that I can click "Don't show again", but I'd like to know where this is coming from before I disable it.

I don't follow you. Nobody I follow re-posted this. How in the ever-loving fuck did you and this post end up shoved in my face in my home feed? We aren't on the same Mastadon server/host/website of newsie.social.
Anybody know why, perhaps, my Mastodon seems to be ever slowly turning into a twiter trash feed?
The post I'm replying to is not trash. It might be hella great. The trash issue is, it's against my will & opposite of I've been promised.
I no longer seem to be able to translate toot text. In fact I can’t even select text unless I’m composing. Did I mess something up with this app? #mastodonhelp
#mastodonhelp anyone have a clue why I cannot boost certain posts? The boost button is active and appears usable, but I simply cannot tap/activate it. Same applies to tapping into the ellipse menu and trying to boost that way.
Are some instances configured to only allow boosts from a certain audience or group of instances? If so, why isn't the boost button appearing as inactive? Using Ice Cubes, fwiw.
Muting long threads
Does anyone know how to mute a long thread that just fills your stream? I've tried @pluralistic 's suggestion of a filter, but it's not working (on his own long long long post, as it happens).
I read that if someone puts the first post as public then the following ones as unlisted, that would work. But the poster would have to do that.
Anyone?
How to I block everything from BlueSky?
Can you somehow subscribe to other users' threads?
I find myself regularly bookmarking other users' posts for the sole purpose of later checking manually if more replies appeared. I see two issues with this:
1. It feels wrong to do manually what the network and app should do for me.
2. I probably don't see all replies from other instances. I'd hope that with subscribing I could increase their visibility to me.
I use the @Tusky app.
Can someone on here remind me which setting I need to change so I have a private account only viewable to people who follow me? Only need it for a short period.

Is there a keyboard shortcut in the web-interface for "mark all notifications as read?"
The keyboard-shortcuts listed when typing «?» seem spotty at best—j/k doesn't seem to do anything (which in turn doesn't give post-focus for fav/boost/mention/etc functions; alt+x shows the content-warning box; but doesn't un-show it, etc. Some of the work better in the Advanced view rather than the more simple timeline view, but still spotty.
