Question for anyone out there on the #Fediverse .
Is there any kind of #FediverseBusinessAssociation ? A group of folks pulling to run businesses either on the fediverse or supporting the fediverse or anything?
Right now we're all separated and attempting to figure out how to fund the Fediverse and how to make money ON the Fediverse. But do we have a group where we can all discuss what does and doesn't work?
Gather the experiences of people that have run businesses in the past and all work together to figure this out?

A periodical reminder that the Coca-Cola Company murdered union leaders in Colombia and Guatemala, and is complicit in many other human rights abuses in several countries, including child labour.
And that's before we mention their leading role in filling our land and sea with plastic.
They are quite literally poisoning everyone: human, plant and animal. While making billions and avoiding taxes.
Remember that next time they pull out the cute polar bear ads.

If every U.S. adult moved just one $40 gift
from Amazon to a small business this holiday season...
We'd redirect $10+ BILLION to support small businesses. The power of your purse. Wield your power wisely.

OK - despite the fact that #money is *pretty* tight right now, I did a pledgey thing. I don't do pledgey things very often... I think the last thing I pledged was the #Pebble watch. Which I loved, and so did lots of other folks. So, this means I have incredible taste, and you should definitely do a pledgey thing too. Put your #fediverse millions into @bonfire c/o their Indiepledgey place... here

I typically don't consider myself a #roleModel. But in this case, please follow my "lead" and become #supportingMember of @noybeu. I'm a so-called #gold member, but there are various options:
They do amazing work with our #money!
⚖️📚 The #EUCommission has secretly set in motion a potentially massive reform of the #GDPR. If internal drafts become reality, this would have significant impact on people's fundamental right to #privacy and data protection.

Wow, that's a lot of pennies.
@lowqualityfacts Making change has always been difficult for me. I’d hand over a dollar and ask for 8.818 ounces of pennies. But that’s only want to give me 0.8 ounces of quarters. That screws me out of a whole 8.018 ounces of metal.
A lot of things matter to me in choosing what I work on, and who I work for. Money is one. It isn't the only one. It isn't even the most important one. I have an in-my-head sliding scale I use - the better your work matches my #ethical framework, the less #lucre it takes to convince me to help you.
So if you're using "AI" to build #algorithmic pricing systems to sell to companies so they can #gouge people needing services in their most #desperate hour? I *might* entertain a rate of $1000 per hour to shit on your head. There isn't enough #money in the world to get me to help you build that stuff.
On the other hand, if you're a small #company, selling actual #goods or #services to #customers who want and need them, as opposed to building something #shiny to attract the rubes so you can sell your audience to the #advertising industry? And you need a techie person?
Let's talk.

People who follow me may know that I've been without work for some time. I don't talk about it much. I was laid off from a public #benefit corporation undergoing some restructuring just as companies started firing engineers due to the "AI" hype.
I'm basically semi-retired at this point, mostly involuntarily, but I would love to find #work that I could feel good about to occupy some of my time.
I'm a #software engineer with two-plus decades of experience in a large number of areas. I've worked as an independent consultant in many industries, worked for a consulting company in many others, and held staff positions with tech companies of different sizes in various fields. Most recently I've tended to be designing and implementing APIs for internal and external use. I've been using Python professionally for 25 years, and personally for longer. The list of OSes, languages, and technologies I've worked with is long.
If you need some software-engineer-y things done but you're now saying "We can't possibly afford to #hire someone like that", keep reading.
