Unlike the recently shared[1] multi-cellular struggles, these here are some selected research stills (handpicked from tens of thousands) of only single CA configurations (aka mono-cultures) which I found interesting/promising and which were then used as raw ingredients/candidates for my infinitely evolving C-SCAPE project[2]...

Each of these cellular automata is 1.5D, meaning each pixel row is one generation, but I allowed the neighborhoods to be flexible, larger (potentially discontinuous), and in some cases extended to enable access to cell states in previous generations (i.e. a form of temporal short term memory). This leads to all sorts of much more interesting and complex outcomes than "traditional" (aka textbook) 1-dimensional CA setups...

I saw these guys live once in Seattle a long ways back, and since that night, I’ve been a big fan.

They’ve always reminded me of a handful of bands I adored as a kid; bits and pieces of The Jesus Lizard, a little Refused, some Big Black here and there.

If you’re unfamiliar with this great band from Pennsylvania, maybe start here. And if you like it, move on to the phenomenal Honeys, which some argue is their masterpiece.

It gets worse, too.

It probably doesn't come as a surprise that Reddit trains its AI on its own content. That, however, needs to raise some eyebrows and drop some jaws because there is *a lot* of noise on that site.

The #SinclairQL sound system is really pretty bonkers. Documentation is vague and even the explainers I've found are missing stuff while some others are trying to guess. At least in an emulator one can create quite odd results by giving values which don't follow the guidelines.

What was fun was that one command created sound akin to a tune by #Ø, while adding another parameter resulted in a #noise tune by #PanSonic. Awesome!

Whoa, Finnish sludge/punk/noise rock band Kantamus was announced as the support act for Thou's next week gig in Helsinki. Good for them, and I can't wait to see them too!

It's about the "state of acute psychiatry in Finland and how far a person's life can go into crisis before they get the help they need (if they get it)".
