I just downloaded every single #torrent from #SciOp and am ensuring that all of them are now in the #antifa torrent server.

btw does anyone want the complete 1.2 gigs of torrents from SciOp in one ZIP package?

The RMA'd HDD replacement landed today and is surface scanning. HDD #5 completed its scan 100% OK. Once these two are ready, and the last two old 2TB drives are out of the pool, these go in. That leaves two slots left for new HDDs, but those are at least newer 6TB WD Purples I pulled out of a DVR.

This is a really excellent talk at by Ben Zhao about the limits of and misconceptions about LLMs, that is tailored for the and crowd. He focuses in on how they work, and don't work -- and bridges that to a discussion of the impacts that the technology is having on the larger web (bots).

It gives me no measure of good vibes to know that a big crowd of people in my profession got to hear this for a keynote about AI.

Here it is as I mentioned in a previous post. #resist #fascism #datahoarder #digitalpreservation #archive

Important public information is being systematically removed from government websites by the US fascist administration.

Much of this essential data is sourced from sites like sciop.net/datasets/.

I've been contributing by running a torrent server, but its existing tired hard drives are dropping like flies. I have the benefit of free solar power and a free server with unmetered bandwidth, but without new storage, this vital preservation work will halt.

Every donation will help me acquire "renewed" datacenter grade 12TB or 14TB hard drives, allowing me to continue my efforts to archive and protect public information for future generations. Currently, renewed Western Digital 14TB drives are about $160 ea, and the server can hold 8 of them. The GoFundMe goal is $1356 because that would fill the entire server with 112TB of storage.
