I'm a software engineer by day, and I lead a team working at the intersection of digital identity and usability.

Functionally, this means I grew up playing around in Macromedia Fireworks and learning to make websites with the middle school librarian, and nowadays I know far too much about #SAML, #MFA, #OIDC, #Passkeys, and go to lots of meetings 😮‍💨

I love music (playing or listening), photography, and getting outdoors! Teaching makes me incredibly happy.

I'm also a diehard #avgeek, licensed #amateurradio operator, uhhhh, I know a lot about transit busses? Tell me about your special interests plz!

Currently learning C++ because I'm insane, and learning to draw with #Krita because it makes me happy.

We are so back, but things will look a bit different...

In order to ensure that we don't unintentionally create a security or privacy risk, we've made some changes to the bot.

• We will no longer have identifying info on the message body (i.e. no flight numbers or registrations).

• Posts will be delayed by 2 hours - to reduce the likelihood that a plane is still in the air when we post the message.

• No information about where the message was captured will be provided (i.e. no regional feeds).

So right now, we've started up the feed ingestion again, and we are building up our 2 hour buffer.

Trending, Top Shelf remain, the regional feeds are no more (sorry).

So, not gonna be quite the same experience, but better than no ACARS Drama!

"Toulouse, France, 28 November 2025 – Analysis of a recent event involving an A320 Family aircraft has revealed that intense solar radiation may corrupt data critical to the functioning of flight controls.

Airbus has consequently identified a significant number of A320 Family aircraft currently in-service which may be impacted.

Airbus has worked proactively with the aviation authorities to request immediate precautionary action from operators via an Alert Operators Transmission (AOT) in order to implement the available software and/or hardware protection, and ensure the fleet is safe to fly. This AOT will be reflected in an Emergency Airworthiness Directive from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

Airbus acknowledges these recommendations will lead to operational disruptions to passengers and customers. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and will work closely with operators, while keeping safety as our number one and overriding priority."

Quick note: obviously ACARS Drama started as a fun project for aviation nerds who enjoy this type of thing, but we’ve kinda unintentionally morphed recently into a raw look at the impacts of the US government shut down on air traffic in real time.

We just wanted to take another moment to say, we support air traffic controllers and all other airport staff working hard to keep things moving under these conditions. And of course, the flight crews who are working hard through it all as well.

Y’all deserve to be paid.

Last night I camped at the base of the hill that this radome is on. I guessed it to be a National Weather Service (NWS) Doppler radar. But the NWS doesn't have a radar station located on Red Mesa, WNW of Seligman, Arizona. Turned out it is an air traffic control radar site.
