not in portland, we don't.
if we camp on private property, private security, companies contracted by the city government, or just groundskeepers, can take all our property and throw it away.
and if we camp on city-owned property, the police or companies under contract with the city can take our possessions.
here in portland, one does not even have to provide a name or ID - just tell the contractor's the date and place when the stuff was taken, and it'll all be handed over to the first person who provides the correct info.

Trump regime's move to send the homeless et al to concentration camps is right out of the Nazi playbook.
Journalists who maintain "neutrality" in the face of fascism are helping to normalize this. They'll regret their inaction when they're among the imprisoned (or worse).
The visibility of homeless people on street corners, begging for food and housing, is an obvious sign that our economy is failing. I've seen a large increase in the number of people begging at intersections in my suburbs far outside of Chicago, steadily increasing since Covid lockdowns ended.
Dictators need to hide the homeless in order to hide their economic failures. (Also, without an address, the homeless can't vote, making them easier targets.)
Republicans have always preferred the more expensive "prisons and insane asylums" response to #homelessness , rather than the less-expensive and proven #HousingFirst solutions.
Much of this current White House statement on the subject tries to forestall and negate #HousingFirst discussions by demonizing the homeless and portraying them all as either insane or addicts, rather than just signs of an economy that is failing to meet the basic needs of millions of its citizens.
