@Hendiadyoin can relate to this so much! 😅
Last summer at #FediCon2025, i was the only attendee wearing cat ears (headband) here in Vancouver 🇨🇦
☕ Brew & Build: A Cozy Introvert-Friendly Meetup
The Vibe: This is a warm, small-group meetup designed for depth over distance. If you prefer meaningful conversation over a crowded room, this is for you.
The Boundary: We cap this event at 9 people to keep the energy grounded. Once we are full, RSVP closes!
📅 When: Last Sunday of the month | 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM PST 📍 Location: Cafe La Forêt (Royal Oak). 1-min walk from Skytrain.
We are a community of Vancouver creatives and tech folks imagining a better internet together. We combine empathy and logic to build bridges, not walls.
💎 Big News: Our calendar just hit 100 subscribers! It is an honour to grow with you. This journey started as an idea incubated at #FediCon2025. Thank you to the #OpenWeb community for helping us build this #Vancouver Fediverse Club and Third Space.
Come as you are. Share what you cherish.

👑 Huge mahalo (thanks) to the incredible humans here on fedi! We are the signal in the noise. Not here to scream into the void or broadcast at you.
When online, my goal is to connect and converse. Follower numbers don't matter to me. People are more than numbers; they are individuals with rich stories. I focus on coherence and resonance.
I connect deeply with aligned people, whether online privately or IRL if you happen to visit or are in Vancouver.
We have a special place for that connection: FediCollective has been meeting since September 2025 as a Third Space in Metro Vancouver as a direct result of FediCon2025. Come join us. We are planning big things for 2026!
If you want to connect with other kind people, you can join us here: https://fedicollective.lovable.app/
You can also check out what we are doing this Sunday or later on our event calendar: https://lu.ma/fedicollective
If we haven't connected yet, what is the one thing that brings you the most bliss right now?
@dansup @evilworld would be good to get the peertube recordings of the last event up on the website, it doesn't mention them anywhere
I got really busy at the end of August. And, it hasn't let up yet.
@atomicpoet 's #FediCon2025 panel is partially edited — but I still have more work to do.
A month later, I wrote some brief notes about #FediCon2025 on my blog. Looking forward to next year's conference for more inspiration and innovation on the Fediverse and decentralized social networks space!
Are you 1. Vancouver-local, 2. interested in joining a #PeerTube cooperative? 3. into ☕️ & face-to-face convos with #BIPOC folx like me? 🌈
@atomicpoet and I chatted bout how expensive it is to run a PeerTube server AND what can we do about it.

@id thx 4 ur kindness. Following and great to connect to @Gina, have been following @_elena since before the awesome and amazing video ☺️
#FediCollective was founded after we had #fedicon2025 here in Vancouver because IRL people also mentioned wanting community ala Fediverse Club. Today builders and creatives are meeting to discuss ideas and projects for the Open Web ❤️
Just really excited the LGBTQIA2 and BIPOC gaming community want to be involved 🌈
On September 18, I also posted "Facts Over Feelings: Stop Waiting. Start Building" on LinkedIn to be transparent about who are the pivotal folx I've met IRL at #FediCon2025 that are helping on- and offline for the co-creation of the kind of #DWeb #OpenWeb we like.
I close it with actionable steps and a framework
"Don't critique the vibe - create it. Show up consistently. Build what the community needs."
Building vs. Complaining on the Social Web
Last week, saw someone post about what's wrong with the Fediverse vibe & decentralized social media for LGBT folx. I'm in the tech.lgbt server since 2023. It's not vibes as the issue, it's lack of action. Instead of pointing out the wrongs, do what's helpful.
Here's what I've learned from actually building community here
✅ We've created real IRL #ThirdSpace meetups in Vancouver directly after #FediCon2025 via #FediCollective & #PeerTube coop
✅ Connected BIPOC & LGBTQ+ creators across platforms
✅ Built supportive spaces for wellness & grief recovery
✅ Fostered genuine relationships that extend beyond screens
The vibe of any space is what we collectively create. Instead of waiting for someone else to fix the problems we see, be the change you want to see.
What are YOU building here? What communities are you nurturing? What connections are you fostering?
The future belongs to the builders, not the critics. HT @evan for yesterday's post that inspired me

That was the main point of my presentation at #Fedicon2025, that:
1. We need a real payment infrastructure here on the Fediverse.
2. We need to do it well, to avoid the (numerous) sins of the past.
3. I'm doing that right now, PLEASE HELP ME OMG.
I can't wait until the videos are up, then I can just link to that presentation a thousand times, because I laid out my entire life's purpose in it.
For now it’s face to face monthly over coffee but I hope to find some co-organizing help for a global/ online-only membership version so folx can remotely participate in discussions and solutions
