#Racism, like #imperialism itself, is not a side-show to #capitalism but a structurally necessary feature of it. It is not a standalone problem that can be addressed with a few #liberal #reforms here & there. It has always been central to capitalism & it remains that way today.

First, progress is slower than we thought. Between 1980 & 2011, global extreme #poverty declined by only six percentage points, from 23% to 17%. During the same period, the number of people in extreme poverty actually increased, from 1.01 billion to 1.20 billion.
