Something random from the #travel archive. This is the façade of Concordia station in Bilbao, a great example of Art Nouveau built during the Belle Époque to connect several narrow gauge rail lines in the region.

In June 1598, Juan de Oñate led a group of Spanish settlers through the Jornada del Muerto, an inhospitable patch of desert that ends just south of the present-day city of Socorro. Piro Indians from Teypana pueblo encountered the Spaniards, giving them food and water. The Spaniards renamed the pueblo Socorro, which means "help" or "aid". Later, the name "Socorro" would be applied to the nearby Piro pueblo of Pilabó.

I'm a longtime professor in Japan and live near Kyoto. Here is some flower power at Kyoto Botanical Gardens, a huge park by the river Kamogawa that is easily accessed. I previously gave more info and showed photos from its big greenhouses, at permalinks https://hcommons.social/@SteveMcCarty/115186088262057479 and https://hcommons.social/@SteveMcCarty/115191307143320552

When the turtle god surfaced with a glowing sword in its beak, would I be ready to take it—to wield my Vietnamese identity like the sword itself and lead my people into a glorious age of prosperity and cultural dominance? There’d be a bánh mì stand on every corner and phở in every pot, and anyone who uttered the words 'Ching chong, ling long' to an Asian person would be swiftly beheaded."

Are there any places in #London #UK that offer drop-in child minding, either as a standalone service or as part of a museum/science centre/cafe visit? I'm thinking something like at Ikea, or the Pavillion of Knowledge in Lisbon (at least when we visited in 2019, there was a staffed children's play area that allowed us a bit of a break). We could really use a few hours of child-free time on this extended #holiday. #travel #parenting
Please boost for reach.
Today, I'm visiting Al-Andalus for #FensterFreitag. The Alhambra, in Granada, has many simply jaw-dropping interiors. This is the Throne Room in the Hall of the Ambassadors. Shortly after the end of Muslim rule, it was in this room that Columbus received his commission to sail to the New World...
