#intro 01—Hello #Forkiverse!
I've been working on the Internet in civil service since 1996, and helped building the first .gov.br websites. I though we we're doing good, but we were kind of naive then. Now it's time to get our old Internet back, and from everything I've seen, I came to the conclusion that…we have to "finish building #theFediverse."
Today I work at the Brazilian Institute for #Museums, we are exploring ways to bring #memoryInstitutions into the #Fediverse:

#Forkiverse, an experiment:
#HardFork: "I think we should start a social media platform on the Fediverse.
In the Fediverse?
Is it on or in?
Anyway, we'll find out along the way.
But wait, why do you want to?
What will be the point?
#Forkizens…as someone who really truly has become almost Amish in my dislike of #socialmedia internet, with you guys, what would it be like to try to make a clubhouse that has rules that actually feel healthier?"
#Forkiverse: "To me, what is interesting about this is less about who will show up and what will they say on the network, but what can we connect our server to, right?
To me, this is the promise of #theFediverse.
It's not like could we set up an internet forum where people were nicer to each other and only said like pro-social things about the future of democracy?
It's what happens if you're able to link it to some publications that publish news that you think is interesting…"

Here I want to mention one last development of #Ibram- #Museus experiments with #theFediverse, which emerged as a very interesting opportunity: The App as an Adoption Strategy.
@michael, from #NewsMast, says the Fediverse is still a tech determined environment, where everything starts with a server or a protocol. But this is not the case for people in general or communities in general. For communities & people in #Brazil, #socialspaces start with an app."

"Let me be crystal clear before we begin: I say all of the below with love for #thefediverse.. Deep, stubborn, open-source-loving, billionaire-eschewing love. I want the #OpenSocialWeb to win. But wanting it isn’t enough. If we want this thing to thrive we have to face the #userexperience sins head-on—and maybe even laugh at them a little along the way."

"At the heart of these alternative apps lies #theFediverse platform — a portmanteau of "federated" and "universe" that represents a radical reimagining of how social media can work. Unlike traditional platforms where users are locked into isolated ecosystems, the Fediverse operates as an interconnected network of independent servers that communicate with each other through a standard protocol called #ActivityPub."

"#Bluesky is hot. It's popular. It's got steam. It's got gobs of cursed VC money. It's got some admittedly cool tech behind it. But it just isn't it.
If #FreeOurFeeds succeeds, stands up another instance and figures out a way to run it on the cheap, then I'll be the first to say "congrats" and "I was wrong".
Until then, I will remain skeptical, and I'll keep saying that this sort of money would be better thrown at building out the proven solution, #theFediverse."
