#Philly folks for #FollowFriday:

- @meldar16 - #ttrpg maker, local art fairs, needs funds after concussion (EDIT: also cat pics, of course)
- @deliaturner - cat pics, author, grandma perspective
- @PhilSalkie - cat pics, Manyunk, interesting anecdotes
- @mattia - cat pics, fiber arts, South Philly

I don't know if you notice a trend here, but I think it's clear Philly Mastodon loves taking photos of cats.

I found this delightful book "Fishes of the Wissahickon Creek", by R. Bruce Gebhardt, at the Free Library in Chestnut Hill. It is theoretically possible to order it from the Academy of Natural Sciences (tho my order has not arrived yet): https://secure.touchnet.com/C20688_ustores/web/store_cat.jsp?STOREID=73&CATID=514&SINGLESTORE=true

The intro says he also self-published "Butterfly Blocks: The Butterflies of West Mount Airy (2002-2004)". I tried asking the Academy about it and they know nothing. Any ideas for finding a copy?

In his original manuscript for this work, Bruce extended an invitation to readers to contact him about their own fish discoveries, offering to help confirm their identifications and to provide supplemental information.

One of Bruce's great pleasures in the wake of the publication of his self-published Butterfly Blocks: The Butterflies of West Mount Airy (2002-2004) had been a similar email correspondence with his readers. In addition to fish and butterflies, Bruce's love of nature also encompassed sea shells, birds, reptiles, and mammals.

@ragman and I hosted #HTMLDay in Philadelphia's Washington Square park today. A couple photos we took have been uploaded to the are.na. We were pleasantly surprised that many people found out about us through neocities! Some also from bluesky or mastodon, and some that showed up because of a friend or sheer happenstance. Folx made pro-comic sans and the color pink stickers, pipe cleaner art, interactive nfc tags for trees and weevils, chatted about journaling, game accessibility, and community gardens. Of course, we also made some html pages: a crowd sourcing of favorite tags from followers, a gallery of visitor selected colors, a collection of fun dithered instruments, and more! Thanks to everyone who came to hang out, it was a very respectful and lovely time with wonderful people.

@ragman and I will be hosting HTML Day in Philadelphia on August 2nd! It's going to be a bit of an improv so you'll help shape what happens 😊

Come hang out and write some HTML with us. Art supplies to share would be appreciated. Feel free to turn this into an impromptu distro of masks, zines, or anything else you have to share.

Can't make it in person? Check out the online event https://lunaseeker.com/events/htmlday25 or the official site for other international locations https://html.energy/html-day/2025/index.html

i started throwing some of the stuff from us organizing the Philly HTML Day event together in a @kinopio space. it's a place to gather together artifacts to fine tune it later. In its current state, it's not as good for permanent archival purposes or structure, and I don't expect it to be.

Want to share your HTML creations and HTML Day inspired art with the Philly community? We'd be happy to collect any contributions to showcase back on the site 😊 If you end up making a html page during or after the event, or just think your art would vibe deeply with Philly grit regardless of whether you're from Philly, send it our way. Just keep in mind that we're limited in the file sizes we can work with, so we might also talk about image compression etc. before posting.

This organizer in #California says a farmworker strike is coming at the height of harvest season (dates yet to be announced).

Community support is making this happen. Mutual aid drives at protests, people delivering groceries to immigrants' homes so they can stay safe, people buying out vendors' stock, this has been going on for months now.

Combined with the #Philly strike you can see the writing on the wall.
