Made the 'mistake' of reading the first #Murderbot story yesterday and have ended up diving through the next three today. Fortunately, I picked them up when they were in a bundle! Really enjoying them - pacing great, stories sharp and some wry humour.

I have such amazing reading this weekend - borrowed #Enshittification by @pluralistic via my local library. The case studies of #Google and #Amazon are on point & disturbing. Hoping to see mention of #Mastodon &/or the #Activitypub protocol at some point 👀😆
Got the ARC #Murderbot new book by @marthawells , Platform Decay. As much as I dislike the TV series, so far this installment is just as wry & funny as the book series so I'm in a super relieved, grateful place🧵 1/?

"Sorry? What the hell was wrong with me? I had been infected with an empathy virus by my clients."

Just discovered Murderbot, in which Alexander Skarsgård plays a security drone who's hacked the module that makes it obey humans.
It's sent on duty with a group of hippies from an anarchist planet, and tries to make sense of how they relate to each other. While trying to keep them safe and avoid revealing it's "gone rogue".

@strypey
It was a real moreish series, and stuck well to the books. The next series should be aired in 2026, but in the meantime I'd recommend the Murderbot Diaries books that the show was based of. The author is online at @marthawells, of this parish.

"Despite being a powerful and lethal security unit, Murderbot is an extreme introvert. Its primary goal is to be left alone so it can spend its time watching hours of its favorite soap operas and other media. It's highly cynical, sarcastic, and finds human interaction to be awkward and tedious. However, it also finds itself unexpectedly forming bonds with the humans it's supposed to protect, which leads to a lot of internal conflict and reluctant heroism."
Humble Bundle are offering the entire (I think?) #MurderBot#MurderBotDiaries catalogue plus other #MarthaWells books if you donate enough in support of World Central Kitchen.
