@adamengst joins us to valiantly attempt to explain to us how the new Phone app is supposed to work in iOS 26. He’ll demystify the Classic and Unified views and even help you figure out how to call someone from the calls list in the two different views.

Added icons and colours to the settings, it looks a lot more design 🙌
Whether it's auto share, default visibility, or catalog language, you can now set it all in the settings. Set it once, it works all the time. No need to keep switching 😁.
Also a new feature, Follow Instance Settings. Just set it once on the website of your instance, and it works everywhere.

esim hotswap - can we make esim hot swapping between iPhone and Android a regular thing? With zero carrier involvement - just like regular sim swapping allows.
Regular sim card hot swapping between multiple devices requires zero carrier involvement.
Esims are supposed to be "the future" and "better". Until esim supports hot swapping back and forth and iPhone and Android and vice versa on a daily basis, as much as we want, I don't think it's true.
Some might say this involves carriers but I kind of disagree and think Apple and Google should take a leadership role here and *bring* this ability *to* carriers. Make the front end and back end technology so easy that carriers will support it. And eventually require them to do so.

Seems like #AirPods Pro 3 have the ‘Optimized Charge Limit’ feature on by default. Not sure if that’s specific to #iOS26.
This is one device where I definitely do *not* want that feature, battery longevity be darned (also I have AppleCare lol). When I put them back in the case, I want them back to 100% ASAP for my next use.

Something j don’t like about #iOS26 and #LiquidGlass just clicked for me: It’s like they allowed Jonny Ive into the software to rip out genuinely useful features in an overzealous pursuit of form over function.
Example: IIRC from iOS 18, the message view in Mail lost triage features. You need to back out of it to do anything with it. Needless extra taps.
Music: The toolbar disappears all the time now, requiring multiple taps just to get back to my library. Tedious, neeedless.
living with #iOS26 continues to reveal new #shitUI / #shitUX “features” 😡🤬
the #Safari toolbar now has enormous text & button elements^ that have presumably led to the decision to remove the tabs button / icon & relegating to a pop-up menu – so now viewing open tabs requires two taps instead of one, & switching to a different tab now requires three taps instead of two… 🤦♀️
these are the alleged “design geniuses” of #Apple at work, folks 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
^ I have old eyes, so I tend to run most app text size at 120% – but I’ve checked the toolbar layout at other text sizes all the way down to 80% & it doesn’t change the elements presented, so the tabs button / icon doesn’t disappear ’coz I’m running larger text sizes, it’s just a crap design decision 💁♀️
Dear friends and fellow #developers
Before the war, I was a #software engineer, coding while holding my child. Now, I struggle just to put bread on the table.
This is my “Before and After.” Life changed overnight, but I still hold onto hope for my children.

Another thing that bothers me in #iOS26 #LiquidGlass: the new text-selection menu. It used to be a neat scrollable list. Now it only shows three options, hiding the rest behind an arrow. One more tap for every edit, and to top it off, it’s inconsistent across apps. #Apple 👏
Hui…..yesterday’s #iOS26.1 update also fixed this issue 🤗 Simply drag a little further to the left, and the "extended" properties list shows up.
