Jean Lin, special counsel for the #DOJ, confirmed the deployment to the US District Court Judge Karin Immergut on Wednesday but provided few specifics — minutes before the trial began.
Immergut issued a restraining order at 3:40PM on Oct 4, barring #Trump from federalizing the #Oregon #NationalGuard & blocking their deployment. Later, on Oct 5, she issued another order temporarily blocking Guard members from anywhere in the country from deploying to Oregon.
“We’ll talk later about whether that’s #contempt,” the judge responded to Lin Wednesday.
For the next 3 days, Immergut will preside over a trial that’s expected to touch on a range of issues, from lofty legal arguments about the authority & limitations of presidential powers, to specific ways the #Portland Police Bureau has evolved its response to #protests since 2020, & rising tensions between local & #federal law enforcement officers.
I am absolutely furious and horrified to see that #NC #Republicans are yet again #Gerrymandering our districts even harder. This is fucking disgusting. And for those that act like they care about #democracy this is absolutely undermining that. They're fully supporting a #POTUS that calls for ACTUALLY rigging #elections and not just the fake made up shit he came up with.
