One was a still from “Blue Thunder,” a 1983 action-thriller about a conspiracy to deprive residents of #LosAngeles of their civil rights. It features a climatic dogfight over the city’s downtown.

Darren L. Linvill, a researcher at Clemson University’s #Media Forensics Hub, said #conservatives online were “building up the riots in a performative way” to help bolster #Trump’s claims that #LosAngeles had been taken over by “violent, insurrectionist mobs.”

Linvill said the posts were also “a bit self-fulfilling.” “As they direct attention to it,” he said, “more #protesters will show up.”

Members of the #NationalGuard faced off w/ #protesters in #LosAngeles on Sun, & #TearGas was fired at a growing crowd that gathered outside a federal complex hours after the federal troops arrived in the city on #Trump’s orders.

The confrontation broke out in front of the Metropolitan Detention Center in #LA, as a group of demonstrators SHOUTED INSULTS at the guard lined shoulder to shoulder behind riot shields.

Tear gas for insults.

🚨🚨 #NationalGuard members or other agents, it’s not clear which, just fired what appeared to be #TearGas at the crowd outside the detention center in downtown #LosAngeles, scattering #protesters who coughed from the smoke. Others helped them wash out their eyes.

At least one protester was hit by a #RubberBullet.
