Finally found a solution for an annoying bug in @thunderbird:
The Calendar in Mozilla #Thunderbird 140.6.0esr on Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS
scrolls way too fast & erratic using a mouse. Both in the main calendar as well as the small calendar view in the sidebar. Touchpad is fine.
The solution: disable 'smooth scrolling' in Edit --> Settings (search for 'smooth scrolling')
New blogpost:
"Testing Radicale, a self-hosted FOSS CalDAV and CardDAV Server"
Setting it up was easy.
Importing my calendar appointments history was not.
It doesn't have calendar sharing, and I'm on the fence as to whether this will be a deal breaker.

@neil I wrote my own authorisation module for Radicale. Authentication is done against IMAP which in turn uses LDAP against AD. Once authenticated, calendars can be set to no-access/read-only/read-write to owner, users, groups, anonymous, etc. Shared access works great with #Thunderbird, @davx5app, a general read-only web view (operating on raw .ics files so you can see what is really synced) and a caldav system I glued together for Roundcube.
Is it possible to have a different language on one email account in #thunderbird ?
One of mine is "German", and it would be oh so great if it did "AW:" instead of "Re:" and had German as the default spellcheck 🙏

Victory! MS Office 2024 standalone uninstalled. Now we wait and see if it is needed for anything I didn’t anticipate. #ThunderBird #LibreOffice
I've managed to get #ThunderBird working as a replacement for Outlook, and #LibreOffice _almost_ working as a replacement for Office.
Almost because it is really hard to use a pen to sign documents in LibreOffice where it is super simple in MS Office. If they ever fix that they will cover all of my use cases.
I can't wait to uninstall MS Office in early 2026.

@nshki I don't think is one or the other decision. in my case depends if I want to keep my records secure and independent of the email provider, basically if they are important to me or not. The search functionality is not a factor since I keep them organized - kind of inbox-zero
I have a mix:
- for my domains I use #Thunderbird, kept a copy on the server and download the messages locally
- for work, I do use only webmail - it's a Google workspace, I rely on their search engines

Encore une grande administration qui finalise sa sortie des solutions propriétaires (messagerie Exchange / Outlook).
