The first railway opened in 1895 under the Ottoman Empire. It ran from Beirut to Damascus. By the 1930s, Lebanon had joined the Orient Express network via the Taurus Express link through Homs.
After decades of decline and wartime damage, the final train service ran in 1990.

Pendant de l'histoire, les rames capables d'absorber la demande n'ont jamais été livrées à temps (2023-2024), ne le seront pas en 2026. Et on aura un réseau saturé jusqu'en 2030-2032.
Il a fallu attendre 2019 pour que la logique de réduction du nombre de rames en stock soit arrêtée, au moment où ils ont réalisé que la demande explosait alors que les rames diminuaient.
