FYI you can get transparent solar panels too. This is where panels ought to be, on roofs, where soil is already covered by building footprints. Not covering hectares of productive farmland.

The only reason Think Big "solar farms" are happening is that they're easier for financiers to extractors value from. They're the least likely to be where energy is used, and less likely to be well maintained long-term.
