Well, it took a few goes but I've got Ubuntu Touch 24.04 running on a OnePlus Nord N10 5G. Let's take this baby for a ride. #ubuntutouch

I am exploring postmarketOS as a phone-type device alternative.
I am not willing to make the compromises required to do without a phone entirely, or to use a non-smartphone with a laptop etc.
(I am already using GrapheneOS, but this is not enough.)
@neil
I can recommend Ubuntu Touch, having used it on my phones for 10 years now. Easily flashed onto many Android devices, for a de-Googled phone that works
Something I missed when I first mentioned that Ubuntu Touch 20.04 OTA-10 is now available. While this is a relatively minor update, it does add official support for a new device: the $199 Rabbit R1 handheld AI gadget. https://ubports.com/blog/ubports-news-1/ubuntu-touch-20-04-ota-10-release-3972 #UbuntuTouch #MobileLinux #RabbitR1
Ubuntu Touch 20.04 OTA-10 is now available with some minor changes and a new upgrader function that will let users move to Ubuntu Touch 24.04 once it's available. #UbuntuTouch MobileLinux https://ubports.com/blog/ubports-news-1/ubuntu-touch-20-04-ota-10-release-3972
If you work on a Mobile GNU OS, like @postmarketOS or @mobian, I strongly encourage you to make it as easy as humanly possible for app developers to make one app version for Mobile GNU OS. Which works on any variant, rather than having to play whack-a-mole with distro-specific bugs.
Bonus points for coming together to create a dev environment that can spit out versions for many different mobile OS. As many as possible.

🚨 Google is killing Android freedom.
Starting 2027, unverified apps can’t be side-loaded.
➡️ F-Droid harder to install
➡️ Custom APKs blocked
➡️ Google decides what runs on YOUR phone
Google’s Android is becoming Apple: Your device, their rules.
It’s time to switch to open alternatives: Graphene, Calyx, Lineage. ✊

- I personally daily drive #SailfishOS for more than a decade (commercially supported versions of SFOS even have "Android App Support" running inside a container for "that one app" with no native linux port you can't get without)
- I've heard positive things about #postmarketOS and #UbuntuTouch (but don't have personal experience)
Alternatives to Big Tech/Big Data:
Windows, Apple, Google -> Linux (Debian, Fedora, Mint, Arch...)
Microsoft Office -> LibreOffice (Only Office would also work, but the founders are Russian, who knows...)
Google Android, Apple iOS -> Pixel with GrapheneOS, Fairphone 6 with /e/OS, Brax 3 with iode OS/Ubuntu Touch
OneDrive, Google Drive, iCloud, Dropbox, etc. -> Nextcloud, MEGA, pCloud, Proton Drive
Outlook, Gmail, etc. -> Proton Mail, Tutanota
Airdrop, Link to Windows -> Localsend, KDE Connect
WhatsApp, Telegram, iMessage -> Signal, Element, Threema
Google Search -> Ecosia, Qwant, Startpage, Duckduckgo
YouTube -> Peertube, or as an anonymous YT client: Freetube and Newpipe
Instagram -> Pixelfed
Facebook, X (Twitter) -> Mastodon, possibly Bluesky
Truly secure and anonymous VPN: Mullvad!
This is just a first overview of the most important alternatives for switching. Feel free to continue if needed!

L'interfaccia desktop nativa pensata per #Android 16 è molto interessante

Ma se ad un passo avanti se ne affiancano 2 indietro tutto è vanificato:
- Google Play Integrity API
- Direttiva "RED" 2014/53/UE
E addio a sblocco boot loader, modding e custom rom; che fine faranno le varie #lineageos #grapheneos #ubuntutouch solo per citarne alcune tra quelle che utilizzo? Verso quale direzione controllo globale stiamo andando?
I have been using an #UbuntuTouch device for a few days, which has actually been a delight. It's been really impressive to see how far it's come since I last tried.
Sadly, Signal are arses, and there is still no viable signal client on mobile Linux, so I am with great sadness flashing Android.
If not for Signal, which I need to keep in touch with friends and family, I would be able to ditch Android at last and use a phone that would bring me delight.

as some might recall, we were working on a feature to allow multi booting different systems easily and without any hassle ( partitioning etc).
around that time we started to get in contact with known porters of different systems such as #UbuntuTouch and #sailfishos
after much effort and work, i can confidently say that the #flx1 will be added to the #UBports installer and OTA server soon allowing allow bare metal and multi boot installs!
