Japanese and South Korean lawmakers have held a joint meeting in Seoul as part of a nonpartisan effort to build bilateral friendship. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/11/16/japan/politics/south-korea-japan-joint-meeting/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #japan #politics #southkorea #seoul #southkoreajapanrelations #sanaetakaichi
Big ask: it looks like I’m going to be in #Seoul for a few weeks in November, and I’d really love to give a Lifehouse talk to an appropriately engaged audience while I’m there. The trouble is that all my #Korea contacts are twenty years out of date. So if anyone happens to know a group, venue or bookstore that might be interested in having me speak, please do let me know ASAP, and I’ll reach out to them – many, many thanks.

I always get overwhelmed by the sheer number of cafes in #Seoul. It feels like, to me, that there are 5-10X as many cafes here compared to a similar neighborhood in #Tokyo or #Osaka
It's so hard to tell which ones are good for #coffee and which ones aren't - most are mediocre but some are amazing.
In #Japan I've got this skill down - identifying good vs mediocre just from appearance, but in #Korea I'm lost.
A man stabbed three people to death in Seoul on Wednesday at a pizza restaurant, police said — a rare attack in the normally safe South Korean capital. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/09/03/asia-pacific/crime-legal/stabbing-seoul-pizza-restaurant/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #asiapacific #crimelegal #seoul #southkorea #stabbings
In my Sept, 2024 blog piece on #MOLE Training I quoted David Chapman, a PhD in AI research. He sums up this unjustified optimism nicely in his book #BetterWithoutAI;
"Most AI researchers think AI will have overall positive effects. However, this seems to be based only on a vague faith in the value of technological progress in general. It doesn’t involve worked-out ideas about desirable futures in which AI systems are enormously more powerful than current ones."

All of those points assume AI will be implemented without compliance with the #Bletchley and #Seoul Declarations...
... Which at the moment is kinda true... But all major Governments (mostly) have signed them.

Had a wonderful time today at our second FediDev KR #sprint (@sprints.fedidev.kr) gathering at Turing's Apple ( @TuringAppleDev) in #Seoul!
We spent the day contributing to various #fediverse open source projects including @fedify, @hollo, and Hackers' Pub. It was fantastic to see the community come together to build and improve tools for the decentralized social web.
Our participants made some great contributions, and you can read all about what we accomplished in today's blog post.
Looking forward to our next sprint!
