whoops it's been over a week since I shared any pics here again time to grab some shroomies from the vault for #FungiFriday 😁

Checked on one of my favourite mushroom stumps and these spectacular fellows appeared seemingly out of nowhere overnight!

A large cluster of mushrooms, with somewhat shaggy conical orange-yellow caps and sturdy white stems, rising from the centre of a tree stump in someone's yard, seen from ground level.

The stump as a whole. Turkey tail shelf fungi have colonized one root; the remains of ink-caps are deliquescing in a central groove; and on the other side, though hidden, there are some dead man's fingers.

We look out over a small patch of moss, spread oud like a field towards a horizon on the top of the picture. Lights and shadow play on the scene, creating higlights on the bright green moss.

#FungiFriday: the rain has caused a proliferation of bird's nest fungi (family Nidulariaceae) in the garden! Raindrops splashing into the cups disperses the lentil-shaped packets of spores. Earlier stages, before the cups develop, resemble toasted marshmallows. PBS Deep Look has a great video about them: https://youtu.be/_EBipTLgPUw

A cluster of three little brown cups growing on black wooden mulch (which I kind of hate but I didn't pick it). Two have several flat, round, pale egg-like structures in them.

Close-up of another cup with five "eggs" in it. There are small orange growths near the base of the cup which are early stages of the fruiting body.

Growing bird's nest fungi fruiting bodies on mulch amid fallen honey locust leaves. The larger one looks like the top of a toasted marshmallow, brown crackled with white. The smaller is orangey all over and rough-textured.

#FungiFriday is once again upon us! Here are some pear-shaped puffballs (Apioperdon pyriforme), which I'm told are edible but I have yet to actually try because they tend to be pretty small and seem tedious to prepare lol
