Got my secondhand Kobo Libra Colour this week. I set up custom fonts (Lexend, Fantastique, Alice), KOReader with Date Time Plugin, transparent backgrounds, and e.Mote page turner for iOS/watchOS which I'm alpha testing. Speaking of clocks, I picked up a secondhand Spartus 1099 for $12. I like the large display size. It's sitting on a mousepad I found on the ground in the city that looks like a carpet lol
I am in the market for a new #ereader. Is there a recommendation from my fellow nerds here?
I have a #kindle that is 15 years old (literally!). So that one has no backlighting or anything. If I trade it in, I can get 20% off a new paperwhite from amazon which makes it a kind of nice price (~144€). But I wanted to consider other manufacturers. Is the #pocketbook era worth the extra price? Would be like 60€ extra. Any others I am missing?
Any input welcome.

People of the Fediverse, I need your advice.
My FIL undergoes dialysis every other day. He reads on an ereader during the therapy to pass time, because he can hold the device with a single hand and it is usually lighter than a book.
He's also an eldery person, he has issues adapting to touch interfaces.
I have collected all the button based kindles I could from fleamarkets. I repair them where possible, but their batteries are all dying.
I need advice on a **button based** ereader that is either economical (risk of drop is real) so I can buy spares, or resistant enough to survive drops. #ebook #ereader #kindle #accessibility

The AI brand of #Enshitification has come for #Calibre.

Anyone started a fork yet?
Anyone got a workflow for decrypting #Kobo #ebooks without Calibre? #ebook #ereader

PS. Kumpel mi wyklikał z Hiszpanii.
8/x I was wondering what the color epaper of my #ereader ( #kobo Libra Color) looks like in #microscope closeup. It's kinda interesting to see how the color and grey tones are two different layers and resolutions.
75x magnification.
I'm looking for a non-amazon reader for e-books. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Open to all suggestions but ideally something that doesn't tie me into a particular platform and lets me read indie-published as well as mainstream published books.
I'm an author so have no issue paying for ebooks through online bookshops. While I am trying to avoid giving money to amazon, I am very happy to keep paying authors and publishers!

BOOX is the Chinese e-reader company that out-innovated Amazon's Kindle by embracing open Android systems while everyone else stayed locked down. They developed revolutionary screen tech (BSR) that eliminated e-ink lag, creating devices that are less about just reading and more about full digital productivity.
There's a new jailbreaking method for Kindle devices running firmware versions 5.18.1 through 5.18.5. Called AdBreak, it *only* works on Kindles with "special offers" (ads) enabled, so the Kindle Colorsoft and Scribe aren't supported. #Kindle #AmazonKindle #eReader #Jailbreak #AdBreak https://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/2025/09/26/new-kindle-jailbreak-released/
Ça existe une liseuse noir et blanc format disons A5, qui ne soit produite ni par Amazon ni par Rakuten, qui tourne sur un OS libre et qui soit facilement réparable ?
