Also a #throwback to July 2007, when I was hiking in the always wonderful Rosengarten group (Catinaccio) in the Dolomites in South Tyrol (Northern Italy) for a few days, to get away from it all. 😁 The extensive system of trails and rustic alpine huts and shelters makes that very easy!

Einer der schönsten Aussichtspunkte des Südschwarzwalds für einen beeindruckenden Alpenblick ist und bleibt der Belchen (1414m) - die zweitletzte, größere Erhebung Richtung Süden gesehen.

Auch wenn ich diesen Berg schon unzählige Male - sowohl mit Wanderschuhen als auch mit Touren-Ski, bestiegen habe, ist es immer wieder aufs Neue ein Erlebnis - das richtige Wetter vorausgesetzt.
Wenn man sich dann noch einen Tag herauspickt, an dem die Belchenbahn Revision hat, hält es sich mit dem Andrang auf dem Gipfel auch in Grenzen.

Das Foto entstand vor fast einem Jahr im Dezember, als noch kein Schnee lag und eine Inversionswetterlage Traumblicke in alle Richtungen gewährte.

Zu sehen ist im Vordergrund eine Wiesenhang mit vereinzelnden Nadelbäumen, der nach und nach in bewaldete, tieferliegende Täler sowie Berge übergeht. Im Hintergrund ist Nebel in der Ebene zu sehen, dahinter ragt ein Hochgebirge in den blauen Himmel empor.

My home desktop - 1 March 2000 - a Pentium 233 MMX.
The OS was Debian Linux - you can see a printed Tux near the keyboard.
No broadband connection, just a 56k modem.
Iomega Zip drive - so I could download stuff at Uni and bring it back home.
One year later, this became my first 24/7 server.

When I return to a place I haven’t seen in years and find it exactly the same, I get the strange feeling I’ve traveled through time. Emotions from a different moment in my life come rushing back, and memories surface.

Tonight, my wife and I went back to the pizzeria we used to frequent when we were dating. It brought us back so vividly that, as we left, I instinctively drove toward my old home. It was surreal - yet incredibly beautiful.
