New Holland honeyeater (Phylidonyris novaehollandiae) on a flowering echeveria in my neighbour’s garden.

New Holland honeyeater (Phylidonyris novaehollandiae) on a flowering echeveria. A small black, white and yellow-streaked bird with a longish curved beak to reach nectar. This one is hanging into a bright pink succulent flower.

Another photo from walking around downtown Puerto Ayora, Galapagos. Unsure of the bird species #photography #wildlifephotography #Birds

A small black bird clings to a vertical branch, just underneath a bunch of tightly-clustered yellow flowers. The bird is looking at the flowers, its muzzle already covered in yellow pollen. The background is a uniform, out of focus bright blue

#NationalBirdDay, and my top 4 picks from the ones I see pretty regularly. Black Oystercatcher, Pied-billed Grebe, Green Heron and last but not least, well actually least by name - a Least Sandpiper. All taken this new year. #Birds 🪶 #EastCoastKin #Photography #Nature #Wildlife

Head on view of a Least Sandpiper, standing on a green seaweed covered rock and looking right at me. Out of focus water behind.

A Green Heron, standing on a drainage pipe as the water from high tide and rain flow back into the bay.

A Pied-billed Grebe, and its reflection on calm water - a few drops of water on its back too.

A Black Oystercatcher, looking for a spot to sit a clam to jab it open. On rocks, with weed and barnacles on some.

I saw a sharp-shinned hawk in New Mexico nail a Woodhouse's scrub jay. The hawk held the jay on the ground for a few seconds while it thrashed its last. Then it rested while cloaking its prey with its wings outstretched. Then it carried the jay away for breakfast. I wish I'd gotten a better flight photo, but it does show the gist of the moment. #birds #birding #hawk #NaturePhotography #NewMexico #NatureRedInToothAndClaw

A northern flicker — pretty early this morning. Amazing how well they cling with those toes. Relatively common and my favorite woodpecker.

A woodpecker clings to a vertical part of a juniper tree, looking over its shoulder. Its underside is visible, with black-spotted breast and orange tail feathers.

A sharp-shinned hawk in New Mexico, fluffed up for chilly weather. 🐦

A hawk with yellow eyes and a sharp yellow and black beak stares straight into the camera. Its breast is covered with buff-colored feathers with brown oval patterning.
