"this is out of step with our principles and traditions" or
"this is against all norms" or
"this is beyond the pale…"

I keep yelling at the radio "OMG did you ever think to write any of this stuff down, you know, as a LAW or anything!?"

As they spiral into autocracy it sounds like their system's entire bulwark against it is simply: "Well, a gentleman would never do such a thing!"
