So, people in #IT. Say for some reason we in Europe can no longer get access to US based services. What's your favourite non-US alternative for different types of essential services? How would you for instance replace your current solution for identity management? #cloud #infotech #beredskap #preparedness

Habe dazu schon geschrieben, was meint ihr?

AG Campbell Secures Court Victory Preventing Trump Administration From Unlawfully Cutting Billions In Disaster Preparedness Funding https://www.mass.gov/news/ag-campbell-secures-court-victory-preventing-trump-administration-from-unlawfully-cutting-billions-in-disaster-preparedness-funding
@heidilifeldman This is good to hear, but it won't help that FEMA fired or reassigned all the staff writing on BRIC projects. All the allocated funding has been 'deobligated' and returned to Treasury accounts.
The states still have staff that can manage the grants from the recipient side, but the bureaucracy to implement the program is long gone.

If you're storing anything battery-powered (flashlight, radio, etc.) as part of your emergency supplies, don't store it with alkaline batteries inside. When they inevitably leak, they'll damage or destroy the device. Much better to rubber-band them to the outside.

Our next newsletter will discuss something that maybe you've been thinking about (but probably not): raising chickens in a dryland environment. What aspects of care are different? How do chickens fit into a regenerative project? What alternatives to chickens are there and what differences are there in the niche they fill?
If your land is not arid or dryland, but you are concerned about increasing temperatures and more frequent droughts, some of the care information in this post may be useful as your environment changes in the near future.
I hope to release this early this week, but don't forget to subscribe so that you don't miss it in your inbox.
And please consider subscribing at our supporter tier for fun gifts twice a year and access to additional information - this month I'll be releasing a delightful recipe for paid subscribers only. We could use your support to keep this space going. Thank you!

David Suzuki says we lost the fight for climate, says things are going to get a lot harder, that now is the time to prepare, and to do this together:
"For me, what we’ve got to do now is hunker down. The units of survival are going to be local communities, so I’m urging local communities to get together."

Then there is the #Preparedness Strategy by the European Commission, urging all EU citizens to have an emergency kit at home and have stocks at home for at least 72 hours. Being prepared is not bad, I'd say, but IMHO this is far too individualist. Between the neighbours and local community we care for each other. That is lesson number one from such a crisis situation. You can never have everything you need at home, and mutual support and interdependence is vital.
