…& then after IBM sold #Lenovo, I was then using laptops made by people w/ strong ties to a human-rights-violating regime.
So, let's have perspective: IBM has still never apologized for *literally* helping the Nazis & #Framework may still be the “least evil” of *traditional* laptop companies.
But, this incident does make me wanna desperately find way to make @mntmn's #MNTReform suit my computing needs.
Just 8 days after I began this thread re: maybe switching to a #FrameworkLaptop, a scandal broke that #Framework directly funded toxic individual FOSS developers.
It's not clear to me yet whether an outright boycott is warranted, but what's already obvious is Framework acts like a classic VC-funded tech startup in making foolish unforced errors in policy decision-making b/c they're too busy “moving fast & breaking things” to pay attention to important details (such as past CoC violations)…(1/3)

According to the #Lenovo M920q specs, the machine can only run 32GB of RAM. However, the 8th Gen i5 CPU can address 128GB of RAM. So I purchased 2x32GB DDR4 SODIMM and packed it out. After some memory training, the machine came to life with the full 64GB running nicely. Excellent #bhyve hypervisor as there is no hyper-threading on that CPU to worry about. #gettohosting

So, what’s a good used #laptop model? Do you have a fave?
I think the #Dell Latitude’s are swell looking, the Thinkpad’s as well (even if they’re a bit overrated).
Needs an IPS display and should be below 15”. Should preferably not be more than 5–7 years old or so. I need some performance for photo editing on the go.
Should run Linux/Fedora well. I don’t want to mess around with Wi-Fi card drivers, so there should be support for that in the kernel.

Lenovo is preparing to launch a 12.1 inch tablet with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in China. Every time I set up a new laptop with #opensuse #tumbleweed #linux, I am so excited about the power of #opensource. The little refurbished #lenovo#T14s I got only took 5 minutes to install from an old USB stick. I swear that I needed more time to unpack, locate an Ethernet cable and find my way in the BIOS to set up USB boot than the system itself took for installing. Awesome.
Anybody talking about #Win11#Windows11 #microsoft Well, folks, Linux hardware will become much cheaper now.
