Something I believe may be warrant discussion is how each instance is beholden to the rules of another by virtue of federation. Something that has given way to vibes-based reporting which our administrator has been unable to act on.
This has, unfortunately, resulted in the slander of our instance. Branded as allegedly being "anti-moderation" and "bigoted" for choosing not to punish their users over frivolous reports or engage in the fediblock of the more fringe or controversial instances on here ourselves.
So Fedizens, what are your thoughts?

Today @roost released v0 of Coop, the trust & safety review tool. 👀
https://github.com/roostorg/coop/discussions/44
It’s v0 for a reason: while we focused on core functionality & child safety features like Google Content Safety API integration(!), it’s the first time this code is seeing the light of day as an open source project after we acquired the IP. There’s a lot to be cleaned up and improved, and a lot more we want to do. The important part is that it all happens in the open, now! 🙌

I’m back from FOSDEM! Here’s a little blog post about our first time attending as ROOST:
RE: https://hachyderm.io/@thisismissem/116012963302634018
From one of the items on the agenda:
"How could peer moderation work in an ActivityPub context?"
I miraculously made it to the correct train on the correct platform at the correct time. Goodbye, Brussels!
The @roost.tools talk from @fosdem is up!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOoUfaInsaE
We’ve uploaded it to YouTube for convenience, or you can view it and the slides on the FOSDEM event page:
https://fosdem.org/2026/schedule/event/U7ABHE-roost-osprey/
Give it a watch to learn a bit about trust and safety and Osprey, our open source automated rules engine and investigation tool!
Oh real quick before sleep: I had a great time at the Christchurch Call Foundation × @roost.tools brunch talking about Open Source and Online Safety with folks from across the ecosystem! Thank you to everyone who joined; you all are doing great work and had great insights. I look forward to continuing the conversation about how to keep platforms and users safe with open source solutions.
Good morning Brussels! I’m on my way to the campus to give a talk about how @roost.tools is bringing open source to trust & safety (and vice versa). We’ll be in AW at 10 AM!

Who moderates the social web?
In the second post of our 2025 report series, we look at the people behind the work, their roles, experience, and how many are burning out.
Now with three years of data, we’re also looking at trends.
