Is there an engineer in the house?

It feels like floating offshore wind could quite quickly get cheaper than fixed. All assembly is onshore meaning cheaper labour and equipment costs and more options for process improvement etc. OTOH, needs more material per turbine? Limit on turbine size?

Is it currently more expensive simply because its newer?

Am I missing something?

Such idiocy: “Ports around the country hoped to seize the economic opportunity to become hubs for the wind industry. Under the Biden administration, 12 port projects from California to Virginia were granted funds, all of which the Trump administration said on Friday it was either withdrawing or cancelling.” 🤬

While you were sleeping, #windEnergy reached 31% of the National Grid's electricity demand. https://winderful.uk

The winderful.uk dashboard showing that wind is generating 7,350 MW. That's enough for 7,350,000 blowdryers!

You can see how much our #renewables like hydro and #WindEnergy contribute. Right now, since demand is lower overnight, we're 100% clean (some of our clean energy comes from nuclear) and that's even after exporting about 20% of our electricity.

Breakdown of average power production in Ontario between midnight and 1am, showing about 10 GW nuclear, 5 GW hydro, and 2 GW wind. Shows 10 GW of on demand fossil gas potential but not currently being used. Also shows some exports to a few US states.
