Hey. If you've got a #Kobo #ebookreader, I will appreciate if you could extract some information from your device. Currently, I'm contributing to #postmarketOS wiki. Since #onyxboox refuses to release the kernel source code for its devices, I am trying to gather information about different ebook readers with #eink panel. So if someone wanted to mainline a #boox device, they could use drivers from Kobo since they release the kernel source code.
I would really hate my #booxleaf to become useless, because onyx does not give updates anymore nor it releases the kernel source code so the community can provide an alternative OS or ROM. By doing so, not only onyx contributes to #ewaste. But also forces users to change devices like every 2-3 years. Even when the device is working good. Like me device. Needless to mention #GPLViolation here.
I will post about me plans, later, God willing. For now, I am optimistic about mainlining me device and also #BooxPage. Because both use Snapdragon which has good support in mainline, it's an ebook reader so you don't need to add support for modem and GPU, and the Carta 1200 screen used in these two devices are also used in other e-book readers such as Kobo.
BTW, boosts appreciated! If you haven't got a wiki account, you can ping me and I can add the information :)
Edit: Thank you so much. There are 40 boosts so far. I wanted to say if you got other ebook readers with eink which they release the kernel source code, feel free to add them to the wiki, too.
A closer look at the prototype of an Onyx BOOX Palma phone/eReader with a 6 inch E Ink color display and 4G cellular support. Pricing, availability, and specs haven't been announced yet so this is mostly just a hands-on/preview. #OnyxBOOXPalma#EInk#IFA2025https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYVxVjUN3E4&pp=ygUPb255eCBib294IHBhbG1h
The Onyx BOOX Palma is a phone-sized eReader with an Android-based operating system and an E Ink display. A prototype for a next-gen model could actually be a phone, thanks to an E Ink color display and cellular support. https://www.theverge.com/news/772647/boox-palma-e-reader-e-ink-smartphone-4g-cellular#OnyxBOOXPalma#EInk#eReaders#Smartphones

Amazon may be developing a cheaper Kindle with a color display. Leaked pictures show a prototype with no front light and a 6 inch screen screen. It's said to have better color saturation and more features that make use of color though. https://www.reddit.com/r/kindle/comments/1mp8n11/a_amazon_quebrou_a_parte_deles_do_contrato_ent%C3%A3o/#Kindle#KindlePetitColor#EInk
rust-query, a library with a better API to query #SQLite databases with #Rust
https://nlnet.nl/project/rust-query/
While that sounds relatively mundane, it's something I'm excited about because Rust really doesn't have as many options as, say, Python, where I just define a model in the code and it automagically generates tables, migrations, and everything in between. Did I say doesn't have options? Well, that was only until now 😉

Universal #EInk Solutions, which aims to provide a consistent API for driving #epaper displays 🖥️

As someone who cannot concentrate for long periods on bright screens and the owner of an e-ink monitor as well as an e-reader, this is something I'm looking forward too as it'll increase hackability and enable the development of more #OpenHardware devices!
(On a related note, I also learnt during the course of the meeting that #Modos is also an NLnet-funded project)

My ancient 2013-era #Kindle Paperwhite keeps on deleting sideloaded ebooks, which means that I should probably shop for a new reading tablet.
So, what small-sized #Android #eink tablet can people recommend which also runs the Kindle app without any problems?
(These days, I try to avoid the Kindle store as much as I can, but I am loath to give up my vast library of Kindle ebooks entirely. Although I fortunately still have copies of most the files back when it was still possible to crack the #DRM .)

🆕 blog! “Whatever happened to cheap eReaders?”
Way back in 2012, The Guardian reviewed an eInk reader which cost a mere £8.
The txtr beagle was designed to be a stripped-down and simplified eReader.
As far as I can tell, it never shipped. There were a few review units sent out but I can't find any evidence of consumers getting their hands on one. Also, that £8 price was t…

Anyone have an eink writing device? I'm looking into them. Portability is important to me for notes, so the 10s seem large. But the only smaller device that seems highly recommended is the Nomad. Is that my best option?

I know #Android sucks in a lot of ways, but I'm tempted to get a #BOOX device as my next laptop, using Termux as my CLI.
Just get a 10" eink tablet and pair it with a BT keyboard or something. Because I don't see too many e-ink laptops out there, except for incredibly expensive ones.
Using #eInk for a laptop would be a fun exploration in minimalism, particularly if monochrome.
When used correctly, #OLED has a lot of the advantages of #eInk, and none of the disadvantages.
You just have to be very careful to light up as few pixels as necessary (very strict dark mode).
Raw frame from Blade Runner and how it looks on my color e-ink "very slow movie player" frame. This thing is impossible to photograph because of how reflective the glass is but it looks amazing in person. The color e-ink really looks so cool / very different from a grid of backlit pixels. Wish I could capture it better!
