This week has been a glory of teals and blues with hints of purple. I’ve chosen birds as inspiration to encourage folk to consider joining the Eurasian Birds Yarn Club. If you sign up now, you’ll get February (wren) and if you buy Robin (January) at the same time I’ll refund your postage. You get to save and collect the whole series, but it’s not taking advantage of me as I will send them both together. It’s win-win! #mothyandthesquid #yarn #knitting #crochet mothyandthesquid.com

One of my favourite spinning/yarn facts.
Almost all of your ancestors could spin.
There was a tiny fragment of Neanderthal yarn/twine found in France. It's made from the bast from tree bark......
It's at least 40,000 years old....
It's bloody three ply lace weight yarn. I doubt ANY modern spinner could pull that off, even with all our gadgets and knowledge.

World’s oldest #yarn hints that #Neanderthals had basic math skills

"A tiny scrap of thread stuck to the lower side of a stone flake offers a huge insight into Neanderthal life. The 6.2mm (0.24 inch) long bit of thread, spun from plant fibers, is the oldest example of the material ever found. According to uranium-series dating, the thread came from a layer of sediment between 52,000 and 41,000 years old at a Neanderthal site called Abri du Maras, in France."

'This is an icy teal, which feels like a reinvention of the last recession's turquoise, but colder. This is a color that makes you want to support your neighbors and sabotage the modern gestapo in anyway you can manage. It's a color that makes you want to dismantle a police state. A beautiful background for socks, or a hat, that all say what? FUCK ICE."

Happy Distaff Day, traditionally January 7, the day after Epiphany, when women returned to spinning after the Christmas holiday.
For spinners, then and now, the distaff holds the wool they are using to spin yarn on their spindles.
Here are some free knitting patterns for knit distaffs from my craft tool post

#crochet #FiberArts folks, got any suggestions for what to do with leftover yarn when I'm finished with a project? I've been setting it aside for a "scrap" blanket and baskets, but curious if anyone has favorite projects they like to use leftover yarn in. I'm talking half a ball or less per yarn, 50 to 60 meters tops and in some cases only 10-20 meters.
I'm back! Our Mastodon server was down for maintenance for the last couple of weeks, so I couldn't post over the holidays.
Happy #NewYear! ✨🎇🎆
I finished the purple #handspun yarn. It's 196 yards! 🥳 I did manage DK weight.
I'm working on #HandSpinning its sister #yarn now.
Did you do any #FiberArts over the holidays?

I'm trying to spin DK or smaller. This is my first try on the high speed whorl.
