If you want to buy some real art from a real person in this relentless season of commerce, then why not see which of Rachel Joy's one-off letters are left in stock. Each one is 50 × 50 cm, painted in lettering enamel on canvas.

Learn more about the stories and inspiration behind some of these via this recent despatch from Rachel's newsletter, which you should probably subscribe to:

Oh wise fediverse, can anyone offer any historical context as to why a large signboard such as this would have been dedicated to detailing weather records in the early 1900s?

[Edit: Answer now below in thread.]

Two men in suits and flatcaps standing on a long board resting at each end on the lower rungs of ladders. One is turning to look at the camera while the other is working with a mahl stick and brush to paint lettering on a large wooden sign that is titled “Felixstowe Weather Record 1904” with three columns below recording “Sunshine”, “Bright Sunshine”, and “Rainfall” for different locations.

I'll also be delivering a short session during Saturday's BLAG Meet: Inside Issue 06 (https://bl.ag/meet).

This is'ot strictly connected to the latest issue of the magazine, but I'm using the free, online event to share details of my forthcoming Kickstarter that aims to raise funds to finish a short film I've been working on: When Better Letters Met Brian Walker.

You can pre-register for the Kickstarter now: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/samroberts/when-better-letters-met-brian-walker-a-short-biopic?ref=9wh6qg.
