Prevention is critical because every avoided infection reduces the risk of Long COVID.

Long COVID doesn’t only affect health—it reshapes work. Many healthcare workers describe ongoing symptoms that change how they function day to day, forcing reduced hours, amended duties, or a phased return. At the same time, the pressure to “carry on” can be intense—driven by professional identity, staffing shortages, and fear of being seen as unreliable. Without clear Long COVID guidance, workplace adjustments can become inconsistent, slow, and stressful for everyone involved.

Relatively major culture-maker Boing Boing is running the headline:
COVID pandemic enters seventh year with no end in sight
and the article is not ableist, not bullshit, not denying reality. Nice!

A research group looked at results for over 97,000,000 people, and found
COVID-19 was associated with a 49% increased risk of new-onset autoimmune-related diseases
and flat out:
SARS-CoV-2 infection increases the risk of autoimmune diseases, particularly those affecting vascular and connective tissue. Risk is amplified by severe infection and attenuated by vaccination
and it's hard to imagine a stronger proof - most countries don't have 97 million people in them!

@RHW I think a few of their voters might react the same way
Is it really that bad a thing if it means locking in some policy wins though?
As long as it didn't mean selling out on anything too negative
Yes, any possible infiltration of Libs into ACT again is appalling. They hsve done so much damage and still could. Totally committed to promoting big business and favoured contractors and dreadful at managing money. You worry about Barr and development, that's nothing to what Libs could influence.
I have always been Labor first Greens second for forty years, and had faith in #ACTLabor because have seen good community/social service provision work from them.
In addition Barr is not perfect but I will never ever forget how he and Rachael Stephen Smith kept #ACT safe & organised through #COVID.
We had the careless hopeless #NSW w Gladys dominated by her idiot Health Minister all around us letting infection spread to Vic and beyond at the very start from cruise ships, funerals and an Eastern suburbs birthday party. The vile #Morrison going off to the footy and trying to appease coffee shops etc.
Our Labor closed borders and locked us down tight and worked v hard w the other Labor led states to stop Morrison opening up too soon, in spite of ridiculous opposition.
#ACTLabor fought for our vaccinations to be supplied and made testing centres available all around city.
If I remember rightly ACT and WA came off lightly icases and fatalities compared w everywhere else.
OK bit of rant but I was v vulnerable and feel strongly about this and won't forget.
Lately #AUKUS and Albo weakness has shaken me to reconsider first allegiance to go Green/Ind.
Greens lost two of best last election, Emma Davidson and Rebecca Vassarotti. They deserve to be reelected and Greens should work on that.
I trust Greens to stand strong on environment and social issues, they have had major good influence on Labor while it was coalition. Shane Rattenbury v good on community housing and brought a lot of balance. I would like to see a good spread of #Labor #Green and #Inds in ACT and not a Lib in sight. Have you all forgotten Kate Carnell?
I just read another smarmy think piece about how at-risk people like me should be grateful that some people mask some of the time. That I am being unreasonable to want all people to mask all of the time in public spaces.
People choose to mask for different reasons, they said.
If you’re not masking all of the time, then one of those reasons isn’t to protect others. Being at-risk isn’t something I chose. I can’t decide not to protect myself sometimes if brunch would be more fun.
I have to protect myself ALL of the time. That means if you don’t mask all of the time, then you are not protecting me and others like me all of the time.
But isn’t it better that people mask sometimes? Frankly, no. If I can’t trust you to protect me all of the time, then I just can’t trust you at all. If you’re not masking all of the time, then you’re a ticking time bomb for me.
