“Pfade und Wege” / Paths and ways

Ninh Bình province, Vietnam.

#photography #landscape #Vietnam

Photo of a curved walkway of weathered wooden planks, snaking over a wide lake as it recedes into the distance. The lake is still, with the stalks of aquatic plants breaking the surface and green leaves floating on the water. Tiny figures of people can be seen walking along the path at the far end. Hilly limestone formations covered in green foliage rise beyond the walkway, reflected in the lake’s surface. The sky above is overcast with glimmers of sunlight breaking through.

U.S. senators telling troops they don’t have to obey illegal commands has sparked ire from President Donald Trump, underscoring the enduring principle that soldiers must follow conscience and the law above orders. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/commentary/2025/12/07/duty-to-disobey-unlawful-orders/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #commentary #us #donaldtrump #markkelly #petehegseth #clausvonstauffenberg #mylai #uniformcodeofmilitaryjustice #nuremberg #internationalcriminalcourt #thehague #germany #france #britain #israel #vietnam

“In der Innenstadt” / In the city center

The dragons of Nguyễn Huệ Boulevard, facing Ho Chi Minh City Hall, in Saigon, #Vietnam.

#photography #urbanphotography #streetphotography #dragon #sculpture #publicart

Photo of a series of swooping arches over a wide pedestrian avenue receding to a building in the distance. The arches have scales and fins in hues of orange and green, and the arch at the far end bears a sculpted dragon’s head. The effect is of a dragon’s long body encircling the avenue, leading the eye to a statue of a man with one arm raised (Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh) in front of a palatial facade. Trees and shrubs line the sides of the avenue, and the sky seen through the dragon arches is blue with white clouds.

The main reason my parents fled #Saigon#Vietnam was because they were hoping to go somewhere else where doctors could help to save my life. I carried that guilt for decades until healing it with my loving parents who sacrificed their lives & their own life dreams in order to try to get me the medical help that I needed as a paralyzed toddler with #polio. My parents wanted to stay in Vietnam & rebuild our lives there. They couldn't stay because there was no medical help available for me.
