"When the monolith fell from the skies, it caused quite a commotion. Ol' Deedra said she saw it fall. She said it was not like it came down from the sky, but came through, like a dark tear in the bright summer sky that stitched itself right back up. But after a few days, it was just a normal thing on the way out of town.
"We didn't notice the change at first, but by the next summer, weird things were happening during childbirth. I mean, childbirth is a miracle in itself, but then, well, when lil Sally was born, her mom was torn pretty badly. But before the doctor could sew her up, she was just healed!
"And lil Robert. When he was born, in the middle of the night if you remember, all the candles blew out. His daddy had to run to the next house over to grab a lamp!
"And River, they say their parents picked the name because it poured a river right over the house the second they were born! Clear skies just a minute before.
"But everyone remembers when Todd went into labor. He'd been wanting that kid so badly! It's a shame that the whole house burned so quick and so bright! No idea how little Sam survived, but she was just smiling when they found her
"But there's something little Sally said in church the other day. She started talking a little young, so I did not pay it much mind at first, but I heard her say it a few times during Sunday school. She said 'your old gods are all dead, but the new gods are here.'
"'Which new gods?' I asked
"'I don't know their names.' she responded
