Just to avoid confusion:

These scientific ML methods have nothing to do with the ubiquitous and more widely known generative AI like GPT.

That both are called AI is unfortunate - and often a psychological trick to give credibility to genAI based on successes of scientific ML.

Whenever you read about AI helping scientific discovery (cancer research, protein folding, ...) it's not the same as ChatGPT.
