Genocide, racism, and misogyny are bad. It should not be a crime to say so.
A lot of countries have systems that make this smoother for people in "normal" situations - someone who works one job in one country without side-work - but fewer and fewer jobs make that a viable way to work. I'd say at this point most people in my field have to move countries as early-career researchers if they want to hold a career together, and more jobs are becoming part-time and the responsibility for that is offloaded onto already struggling people not shouldered by employers.
I dunno. I talk about this stuff on a systemic level but maybe I'm just reflecting my own anxiety and this really isn't a common problem at all.
I mostly just want to be able to do the stuff I'm trained to do and have the time and mental space to do it well. Never mind even wanting less weight of work, I just want the work to be the stuff I'm good at and am being hired to do, not having to spend most of my life and stress levels chasing paper in order to maybe be allowed to do my job.

After being bounced back and forth multiple times between regular Apple support and Apple Developer support, both claiming that this is the other party's problem to solve, I am now looking for anyone at Apple who can put me in touch with the folks that control the system that "locks" Apple Accounts for security reasons.
The Apple Account locking system is a thing that exists! Someone controls/manages it! Please let me talk to them!

@siracusa not to use a business term you’ve probably wanted expunged from memory, but I’m guessing for “The Apple Account locking system”:
- No documented RACI table exists
- Even if it exists, it hasn’t been circulated to all involved
- The de facto team that does now own it, wasn’t informed they do
- Said team almost certainly was never trained on how to manage it

For people who still believe the GPL and copyleft is useless, everybody does what they want anyway and corporations have already won:
I'm working at a pretty big corporation. Our products are entirely proprietary. Nobody will ever know what's running on them.
Copyleft code is still handled extremely strictly. With mandatory legal reviews for every package we want to add. And formal reprimands for everyone trying to slip one by legal.
Of course the most unethical corps don't care.

Using the C preprocessor for languages that don't follow the C tokenisation rules is a recipe for disaster (I have had to deal with people trying it in other contexts).
Serious question to all the scientists out there. We need to get this sorted. What do we call plantbased meatballs? I will not have plantballs. You cannot tell your loved ones you're giving them plantballs. It doesn't work on any level.

Some of this work becomes genuinely purposeless because what people input to it becomes a fiction: the incentives are to say what the paperwork needs you to say until it rapidly divorces from representing reality at all. Other times, the work does have important functions like ensuring people have social security, but the responsibility for that function gets given to the employees or worse, prospective employees who aren't even being paid for the enormous time load of working things out.
